ENERGIA, the International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, is recognized globally as a thought leader and a powerful voice in advancing global and national agendas for a more gender-inclusive energy sector.
We support women’s economic empowerment, inclusive energy access, and gender inclusion across international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals. We champion women as pivotal change agents in the transition to sustainable energy, fostering their leadership and empowering them to drive lasting benefits across their communities.
Our mission
- We develop and support creative solutions to enable energy access for some of the 685 million people who lack electricity globally, and the 2.1 billion people living without access to clean cooking technology.
- We work to achieve gender equality across energy initiatives and to drive sustainable development and an inclusive energy transition.
- We champion women’s participation at all levels in the energy sector and advocate for greater recognition of the specific challenges women and girls face due to energy poverty and climate change.
ENERGIA envisions a world where women have equitable opportunities to lead, participate in and benefit from universal energy access and the transition to renewable, affordable and clean energy.

Empowering women economically
We aim to scale up energy services by helping women establish and grow small businesses, fostering economic independence and community development across Asia and Africa.
Advocating for gender equality
We work to ensure women’s voices are heard in policy and intergovernmental discussions, advocating for the integration of gender perspectives within energy policies and international frameworks.
Mainstreaming gender perspectives
We support the development of gender-inclusive policies and programs to ensure that distinctive needs are accounted for.
Driving collective action
We co-lead the multi-stakeholder Gender and Energy Compact to catalyze and inspire action for a just energy transition.
Through these actions, ENERGIA aims to link energy access with the broader goals of climate justice and human rights. We work to ensure that women, particularly those in vulnerable communities, are not just recipients of energy solutions but active participants in shaping a sustainable and just energy future for all.
