At 52, Yugile Masala is a successful entrepreneur in Mwanza Region, Tanzania balancing two thriving businesses—selling fresh milk and clean energy products. Since joining Solar Sister in 2021, her journey has empowered her to grow both ventures while inspiring her community. With the support of Solar Sister’s training, she now runs a profitable enterprise, supports her family, and encourages other women to pursue their own goals.
Recently, we [Solar Sister] had a chance to catch up with Yugile at home.
“I have become a strong, fighting woman with big goals and ambitions through Solar Sister.”
Being a Solar Sister entrepreneur has helped me improve my family’s life and support my family with family needs. The biggest goal I have achieved since joining Solar Sister is buying a motorcycle that I use to distribute milk and lanterns to customers and for home needs. This has been a big change and has helped us to solve family and business travel challenges.
My biggest goal at the moment is to finish putting windows in my new house and installing ceiling boards (finish the house renovation). Our house’s construction has changed my family’s appearance; visitors have a place to sit and make stories with me.”
The training from Solar Sister that has helped me a lot is “Connected Selling and Record Keeping.” This training has helped me grow my business and make a lot of profit because I can now keep records and connect well with my customers, unlike before when I did not know how to do this.
Society currently sees me as a fighting and assertive woman, and this encourages and strengthens my fellow women to see that it is possible for women. Currently, my responsibility in society is to ensure that I deliver clean solar energy and clean cookstoves.
We use solar in our home. It has helped me a lot with children having more time to study and various activities at night, such as cooking, eating, and preparing milk containers for tomorrow morning to store milk.
I am selling many small A2 lamps made by d.light. The happiest moments in my business are when I sell many products for cash in a short time and make a good profit.
