Supporting UNEP to increase women’s energy entrepreneurship

Supporting the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to improve women’s rights to access and control economic resources and build resilient livelihoods through renewable energy.

This is a component of the UNEP project Strengthening Human Rights and Gender Equality through Climate Change Action and Disaster Risk Reduction’.

Project vision

To identify and implement ways to increase women’s empowerment and climate resilience in parts of Asia through energy entrepreneurship.

Activities and impacts

  • Assess women’s renewable energy entrepreneurship opportunities including technological, social, institutional, financial, regulatory barriers and existing financing mechanisms.
  • Lead focus group discussions to identify needs, voices and perspectives of local stakeholders.
  • Support national baseline gender assessments on energy access and usage, energy poverty and the potential for women’s energy entrepreneurship.
  • Review and provide input on the draft result framework and five-year implementation plan.
