The Gender audit of energy policies and programmes is one of the outputs of Work Package of the activities undertaken within the programme of ENERGIA called ‘Turning Information into Empowerment: Strengthening Gender and Energy Networking in Africa’ (TIE-ENERGIA programme). As part of this programme, the gender audit exercise aimed at identifying gender gaps in energy and poverty policies through making gender and energy issues visible to a wide audience.
The report is organized into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides an introduction and background to the study, while chapter 2 documents the process and methodology used to generate data and information. Chapters 3 and 4 provide the situational analysis of the energy sector and the policy framework for gender mainstreaming in Kenya, respectively. Chapter 5 covers the organizational management and programme level issues. Further, chapters 6 and 7 deal with the role of energy and gender in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and resource mobilization for addressing gender and poverty concerns. Finally, chapter 8 documents the key findings of the study, recommendations and action plans.
